The Arusha National Park (ANAPA) is a less known, smaller national park that still offers exciting activities!
From conquering the second highest mountain in Africa, Mount Meru (4.566m / 14.990ft) over wonderful day hikes (waterfalls, Ngurdoto Crater, Momela lakes) to beautiful safaris, the ANAPA has it all.
Summiting Mt. Meru is a 3 to 4 day tour and by many seen as more challenging than summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro. The hike is steep, direct and short which makes it more challenging but also the perfect preparation for Mt. Kilimanjaro.
If you don’t want to spend so much time in this National Park, you might want to consider a day trip. Walking through lush forests and along the slopes of Mt. Meru will give you a stunning view of its big cousin – Mt. Kilimanjaro.
But that is not all. In the middle of the forest you can find the Ngurdoto Crater where herds of buffalos and warthogs are living. While hiking in the forest you can easily spot the black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkeys, colorful turacos and trogons as well as giraffes, zebras, dik-diks and beautiful flora & fauna. If you are really lucky you might even spot elephants, hyenas or leopards.
You will see pink when visiting the Momela lakes as thousands of flamingos are gathering there to find food.
