Best Time to climb Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is open for climbing all year round. However, some months offer better weather conditions, making the trek safer and more enjoyable.
Best Seasons for Climbing
The best times to climb Kilimanjaro are during the dry seasons when the weather is more stable, and the trails are in good condition:
✅ June to October – This is one of the most popular times to climb. The weather is dry, the skies are usually clear, and the temperatures are cool but comfortable. Since it coincides with the peak travel season, expect more trekkers on the mountain.
✅ December to February – This period is also excellent for trekking. The weather is slightly warmer compared to June–October, and there are still plenty of clear days. It’s a great time to climb if you prefer milder temperatures.
Rainy Seasons: More Challenging Conditions
☔ March to May (Long Rains) & November to Early December (Short Rains) – Climbing during these months is more challenging because of heavy rainfall. The trails become muddy and slippery, making the trek more difficult. However, if you don’t mind the rain, this is when you’ll find fewer people on the mountain, and the scenery is lush and beautiful.
Best Months for Fewer Crowds
If you want to avoid the busiest times and enjoy a quieter trek, consider climbing in:
✔ March – Just before the long rains start, offering a balance of decent weather and fewer climbers.
✔ Early June – Right after the rainy season, with fewer crowds before the peak season begins.
✔ Late October – The end of the dry season, when most trekkers have already completed their climbs.
Choosing the right time to climb Kilimanjaro depends on your preferences. If you want the best weather, aim for the dry months. If you prefer solitude and don’t mind some rain, the off-peak seasons could be a great option!
