Umbwe Route Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave
Your Kilimanjaro journey begins at Umbwe Gate (1,800m/5,905ft). After registration, you’ll trek through a lush forests teeming with colorful birds, monkeys, and an abundance of plant life. Be prepared for an adventurous climb, as the path is steep and can be muddy or slippery at times on the way before reach Umbwe Cave Camp.
Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp
Today’s Hike through short plants at a slow pace to adjust to the altitude(2,880/9,449ft). Enjoy a picnic lunch and reach Barranco Camp by afternoon. Stunning the views of the Barranco Wall and Western Breach is incredible pertain to events some 60,000 years ago when this whole part of mountain collapsed.
Day 3 : Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Today’s challenging hike offers a taste of Barranco Wall (4,035m/ 13,944 ft).It’s a climb that uses both hands and feet, more like scrambling.Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with incredible views across the mountains. After conquering the wall, you’ll continue trekking through a scenic green valley before reaching Karanga camp.
Day 4: Karanga Camp – Ice Camp
Today’s trek pushes you with a steep climb through rocky terrain (4,600m/15,089ft) take amazing view of the Decken Glaciers, Upon reaching Barafu Camp, you’ll find your tents pitched and prepared by your team, allowing you to focus on getting crucial rest and mentally preparing for the summit climb the following night.
Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Begin a pre-dawn summit push, typically starting around midnight. Headlamps will illuminate your path as you ascend through challenging terrain in the darkness. The climb is demanding, but the reward is unparalleled. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft), the highest point in Africa, and witness a breathtaking sunrise above the clouds. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp (3,080m/10,105ft) for a well-deserved rest.
Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate
Today marks the final leg of your journey. Descend through the rainforest ecosystem, retracing your steps from day 1. Enjoy the lush vegetation and the refreshing change in temperature. Upon reaching Mweka Gate (1,630m/5,348ft), celebrate your incredible accomplishment with your fellow climbers and guides. Receive your summit certificate and reflect on the unforgettable memories of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
Day 1: Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Cave Camp
Start at Umbwe Gate (1,800m). Hike through thick forest with lots of birds and monkeys. The path is steep and can be slippery. Sleep at Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m).
Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp – Barranco Camp
Walk through an area with short plants. Go slowly to get used to the height. See great views of Barranco Wall. Stay at Barranco Camp (3,950m).
Day 3: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Climb the Barranco Wall using hands and feet. It’s like scrambling. Enjoy amazing views from the top. Walk through a green valley to Karanga Camp (4,200m).
Day 4: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Hike up rocky ground to Barafu Camp (4,600m). See glaciers on the mountain. Rest and get ready for the big climb tomorrow.
Day 5: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Millennium Camp
Start climbing around midnight. Use headlamps in the dark. It’s hard but worth it. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the top of Africa! See the sunrise, then walk down to Millennium Camp (3,820m).
Day 6: Millennium Camp – Mweka Camp
Walk downhill through different plant areas. The air gets warmer as you go down. Stay at Mweka Camp (3,100m) for your last night on the mountain.
Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate
Finish your trek through the forest to Mweka Gate (1,640m). Get your certificate for climbing Kilimanjaro. Celebrate your big achievement!
