Itinerary

Leave Arusha or Moshi in the morning for a 4-6 hour drive to Lake Natron. The journey takes you through the Great Rift Valley, passing rolling hills, open plains, and Maasai villages along the way. Stop for photos and enjoy the changing landscapes. Arrive at Lake Natron in the afternoon and check into your lodge or campsite. After a short rest, take a walk along the lake’s shore, where you’ll see thousands of flamingos and the lake’s striking red waters. In the evening, have an early dinner and listen to your guide’s briefing about the night hike. Rest for a few hours before your climb.

Just before midnight, start your climb to Ol Doinyo Lengai with an experienced guide. The trail is steep, rocky, and covered in volcanic ash, making it a tough but exciting challenge. After 4-5 hours, reach the 2,962-meter (9,718-foot) summit just as the sun begins to rise. From the top, enjoy breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Natron, and nearby volcanoes. If the volcano is active, you may even see smoking lava vents inside the crater. After some time at the summit, begin the 2-3 hour descent back to camp. Enjoy a well-earned breakfast and rest before preparing for the drive back. Leave for Arusha or Moshi, stopping for lunch along the way, and arrive in the afternoon or early evening.
